PRAXIS

/ˈpraksəs/ noun

  1. the process by which a theory, lesson, or skill is enacted, embodied, or realized.

  2. from the Greek praxis (πρᾶξις) referred to as “activity engaged in by free people”

PRAXIS, our training, devising and world-building methodology has been molded and refined throughout Troy Foundry Theatre’s tenure. It is a performance and dramaturgical training technique that is unique to Troy Foundry Theatre and the City of Troy, yet also draws from from long-established as well as new and innovative devising practices. Whether you want to take part in a masterclass or workshop and develop new skills, or apply for an accredited apprenticeship, there are a variety of ways you can get closer to our work.

Workshops

We host a range of workshops that explore our performance and devising practice which we call “Praxis.” Through innovative and inventive workshops we encourage theatre artists, as well as artist from other disciplines, to explore their collective creativity which can be applied to a range of performance settings. We also task artists with exploring their neutral, yet vulnerable self, something we call finding the “exquisite pain.” In this case, the latin definition of exquisitus (from the word exquirere), meaning "to seek out” or “inquire into,” is very much in play. It is sharp. It is intense. It is truthful.

Whether you are performer looking to develop, learn innovative skills, or someone outside the box, we offer workshops to suit your needs. Led by experienced Troy Foundry Theatre creatives, all workshops are practical and inventive.
